Jose Del Rio was born and raised in Los Angeles in Southern California and attended Chapman University where he received his Bachelor's in Athletic Training. After completing his 3 year program Jose became Board Certified in Athletic Training and has served as our Head Athletic Trainer here at Urgency Med and Pacific Grove High School since August 2016. Jose currently lives in Monterey and enjoys spending time and biking along the beautiful recreational trail along the Monterey Peninsula. Additional interests include weightlifting, food and wine tasting, personal finance, and reading strength and conditioning articles. Jose has additional certifications he uses such as the Functional Movement System for injury screenings, Rocktape for pain management and movement pattern therapy, and the Rockblade Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization for manual therapy.

Athletic Training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. What sets Athletic Trainers apart from other healthcare professionals is their skills in injury prevention and recognition and management of acute sports injuries.

Jose works under our physicians using a team approach to best treat our patients. Jose uses an evidence-based approach combined with patient feedback to help build individualized rehab and therapy best suited to each patient. Jose specializes in assessing the body as a whole unit by assessing the body's entire kinetic chain starting from posture to different movement patterns. Jose utilizes tools such as the functional movement system to screen for potential risks and injuries associated with activity. He is then able to treat dysfunctions through specific therapeutic exercises and skilled manual therapy techniques. Jose incorporates instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization and modalities for pain management, kinesiology taping for improving movement patterns, and therapeutic exercises to help facilitate your body's recovery. Aside from the biomechanical injury prevention screenings Jose is also skilled in recognition and treatment of sports concussions and implementing strength and conditioning programs.
